When I was in secondary school, in Chemistry, I was taught the Atomic Theory, as postulated by John Dalton.

According to John Dalton, an Atom is the smallest indivisible particle of an element.

I read that theory so well that it became a part of me, it generally made me to read chemistry more than any other subject. That foundation helped me to build a very strong chemistry background, that in my WASC Examination, I made an "A" in Chemistry. I even scored 70% in my JAMB

I felt I knew everything about the Atom as explained by Dalton. I actually saw myself as an authority, when it comes to Atomic Theory.

Finally I passed my JAMB as expected, gained admission into the university, where I studied Chemical Engineering.

Guess the shocker I got, in the university, I was taught an Atom has, a nucleus, an electron and neutron.

"Jesssuuuu", how come? But in secondary school they said, according to John Dalton, u can't divide an atom into any other subunit na, its the smallest particle of an element and it is indivisible, how come one can now divide it again into three subunits na? Meaning Dalton or maybe my secondary school teacher lied to me?

Throughout that day in school I wandered what was going on, but I was an authority in the theory of Atom, so what suddenly changed between when I graduated from secondary school and when I entered the university?

In my curiosity, I went back to meet the lecturer in his office, to tell me how come the atom can now be decided into three parts, when we were taught it's indivisible.

Guess what was the answer he gave me, he said, son, in secondary school, u were taught what ur brain could carry, now u have advanced to the university level, it is assumed u can now take in tougher stuff, so now u know the Atomic Theory is deeper than what u thought.

Friends do you guys know what that means?
