ANIOMA YOUTH FORUM WORLDWIDE COMMENDS SOUTHERN GOVERNORS' ASABA ACCORD.
......Calls on Gov. Okowa to ensure full enforcement of "No open grazing" order.
Anioma Youth Forum Worldwide (AYF-W), the umbrella body for all Anioma youths of Delta state whose core mandate primarily predicate on the need for governments at all levels to entrench good governance for the growth and development of Anioma land and her people, Delta State and Nigeria at large through effective management of the people's resources for the common good of the society, rising from its meeting held on Sunday the 16th May 2021, deliberated on several national and local issues affecting them as a people.
As a group, we have followed with great concern and utter displeasure the recent happenings and developments across the nation where kidnapping, banditry, terror and other criminal activities have reached an alarming state. We however also noted the efforts of government at different levels to provide quick intervention to stop these senseless killings through some decisive actions to nip the looming crisis stairing the Nation in the face. At the end of the meeting, the following was resolved:
1: Anioma Youth Forum Worldwide (AYF-W), received the communique issued at end of the recently convoked meeting of the Governors of the Southern Nigeria in the Government House, Asaba, Delta State, on Tuesday, 11th May, 2021 where they reviewed the situation in the nation with focus on the current state of insecurity, agitations for restructuring among others as a bold step towards peace building and easing of the palpable tension in the Nation.
2: AYF-W commends the decision of the Southern Governors Forum to ban open grazing of cattle including cattle movement to Southern Nigeria by foot.
3: This decision to us is a welcome development as the unrestricted movement of cattle by herders have undoubtedly led to clashes between the herders and farmers leaving sour tales of deaths and sorrows.
4: Having taken the bull by the horn, the mere pronouncement of the ban is not enough to solving the insecurity challenges posed by open grazing.
5: Consequently, we therefore strongly call on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to put in place all measures that will enforce to the letters the ban in the overall interest of our people which will address the looming food shortage and hunger heightened through massive abandonment of their farms by farmers for fear of being attacked.
6: While the need for restructuring has become even more important today than yesterday, Anioma Youth Forum Worldwide (AYF-W), calls on His Execellency Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to immediately grant full financial autonomy to Local Government Councils, the Judiciary and State House of Assembly (Legislature).
7: The agitation by the Governors for devolution of more powers to the States without commensurate steps taken to empower governance at the grassroot is tantamount to deception and self serving. Empowering the government at local level is the first step to any form of restructuring that the Governors might desire as it will bring government closer to the people.
8: Anioma Youth Forum Worldwide (AYF-W), reiterates its unwavering commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence among the dwellers in Anioma, Delta State and in Nigeria in general. AYF-W, will continue to partner and collaborate with relevant security agencies and institutions for the promotion of a peaceful Nigeria where fairness, equity, oneness and peaceful co-existence reigns.
