Following his shocking defection from the APC, veteran media strategist and politician Deacon Fidelis Chimokwu has attended a special PDP ward meeting at his Ward 2 secretariat, Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Govt Area.
The meeting which was held to formally receive Deacon Chimokwu and other defectors who have identified with the PDP, took place on Sunday May 16, 2021.
Deacon Fidelis Chimokwu (on green) with Chairman PDP Ward 2 ASLG Nwandu Patrick, Ex-HOA Member Hon Anderson Mekoma (centre) and Mr Ofili, a decampee.
In his remarks, Chairman of Ward 2, Mr Nwandu Patrick in the opening speech thanked all those who were in attendance. He further expressed his joy at the official declaration of Dcn Fidelis Chimokwu and his entourage for the People's Democratic Party PDP, saying that the umbrella is big enough to accommodate every interest.
He said "I am also very excited because I know that Nigerians can see and understand the difference between the APC and the PDP, therefore they are welcome to PDP. "Dcn Fidelis Chimokwu is a brother and his move to our side is something we rate highly."
In a remark by Hon Nwanua Chimokwu (immediate past Councillor), he expressed his happiness over the event, emphasizing his respect and admiration for the personality of the decampee.
"Dcn Chimokwu is my elder brother and for many years we have been hoping that he will make the move he made recently. He had remained the only member of our immediate family that was not under the umbrella, however today makes it a unifying reality as he is now a part and parcel of the PDP."
Speaking at the meeting Deacon Fidelis Chimokwu expressed his satisfaction with the reception he received since the event of his defection from the APC.
I must tell you that I am happy and satisfied with the turnout and reception given to me today.
I am with you to offer my own input to see the growth of the Ward, LGA, State, Region and Country.
There is nothing special about the other side and that is what we are going to prove in subsequent times."
Former member of the Delta State House of Assembly Hon Chief Anderson Mekoma who was also at the meeting had this to say " I admonish everyone to take him as a member and not as a decampee. In PDP we don't have old or new members. All we are seeking is to join ideas and efforts to push for progress and development. The movement to PDP is an exciting one and I welcome Deacon Chimokwu and other defectors who are with him to this fold. "
Also Chief Barr Ź. E Ojeowu in his short speech urged all to join hands towards ensuring victory in subsequent elections. "Politics is a game of numbers and as we have added to our fold, we must continually work to keep it that way. "
Present at the meeting were Mr Nwandu Patrick (Ward Chairman), Comrade Utulu Ndubuisi Emmanuel (Ward Secretary), Edith Nzekwue (Woman leader) Obah Nwaoko (Youth leader) etc.
Also at the meeting were Hon Chief Anderson Mekoma (Ex-HOA, Aniocha South Constituency), Hon Nwanua Chimokwu (immediate past Councilor), Chief Barr Ź. E Ojeowu, Hon Andrew Okolie, a former Councilor of the ward, etc.
