...reiterates call for community based security outfits


A National Youth group has presented strong arguments on the importance of a synergy between local government council Chairmen and Traditional rulers in order effectively tackle insecurity across the country.


This was contained in the presentation made by members of Anioma Youth Forum Worldwide (AYF-W) led by its National President, Comr. Nnamdi Ofonye during a courtesy call on the Ukwuani Local Government Council Chair, Hon. Possible Ajede Esq, on Thursday.

The group also noted that community policing will remain in the spectrum of suggesstions except the powers to provide security at that level is domiciled at the grassroots, stating that such community policing will remain under the supervision of the police.

Ofonye speaking on behalf if the group, noted that such set up will bring about multiple effect for the society like job opportunities for the youths in the villages and drastically reduce the rural urban drift. He also submitted that a certain percentage of the monthly allocations of the councils should be channeled into this setup.

The group regretted the recent attacks suffered by locals in the LGA in the hands of herders and called on the state house of assembly to expedite action and pass the anti grazing bill.

Speaking further, Ofonye appealed on the Council Boss to drive a youth inclusive administration adding that the leadership and members of AYFW in the local government are ready to partner with him in a symbiotic relationship that will engender development and address youth restiveness.

In his reaction, the Executive Chairman described the herders menace as a national tragedy which requires concerted efforts and collective will to fight and eradicate it, stressing that the Delta state government under Senator Ifeanyi Okowa is working round the clock in ensuring the lives and crops of farmers are safe.

He commended the existence of the group and applauded the reality that Anioma now has a viable youth group that can be at par with their peers of ethnic youth groups across the country, with a view to contributing to any critical national discussion, and attract the benefits accrueable from such engagements back home, as against what it used to be in the past.

While pledging to open his doors to the group's representatives in Ukwuani LGA for a strong synergy, he advised them to come up with ideas that will add value to his agenda of transforming the local government into one of the best in the state.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of an AYF-W muffler to the Chairman, to mark the beginning of a purposeful synergy.
