EROSION: APC Chair Chides Okowa/PDP Over Poor Road Project Execution And Monitoring.
Concerned over the unfortunate heavy flooding and erosion bedeviling Asaba, Agbor and other major towns around the state capital, the Caretaker Senatorial Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC, Prince Fred Mordi chided the Delta State Government over perceived infrastructural dearth and low living standards in the state.
In a release to the media on Wednesday Sept 1st 2021, the APC Chieftain urged Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to "be man enough to come out and apologize to the people of state for playing politics of "chop chop" with critical infrastructures and wellbeing of the state".
Prince Mordi was gave this as a reaction to the unpalatable situation wherein motorists were forced to spend long hours on the Agbor section of the Benin/Asaba expressway which has become a high risk area due to the massive flooding and erosion that submerges the poorly constructed roads and drainages around the area.
He accused the Governor of "worsening the situation from what it used to be because the inner community roads were shoddily constructed by untested contractors with the likely aim to get kick backs irrespective of its durability".
According to him, "close to 10 Billion naira of Delta's scarce resources was plunged in January 2021 into that Agbor section of the expressway in continuation of Governor Okowa's Ikanisation agenda of the state yet the situation became worse".
He regretted that the ugly situation has forced Deltans to detest rainfall even when normally, rainfall has always been a balance for farmers and food production.
He said, "Governor Okowa and his PDP cronies have wasted the humongous ecological funds earmarked for world class drainage systems across the state to permanently address the issue of flooding and erosion but from what we are seeing, there is no doubt that only a paltry of it was used as the jobs were given to his boys, family members and other fronts to the detriment of the state".
The APC Chieftain however appealed to Deltans to hold on for the remaining less than 2 years of Okowa's administration insisting that the failures will be corrected by an APC led state government commencing from May 29th, 2023.
