Sociopolotical and cultural group Anioma Youth Forum Worldwide (AYF-W) has extended commendation to the Delta State government and His Excellency, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, for the prompt and decisive action taken to address the recent unrest in Asaba, following clashes between the Hausa Keke/motorcycle riders and state taskforce agents, which led to heightened tension and a breach of public peace, destruction of properties and goods of innocent citizens and residents of the capital city.

According to the group's spokesman and National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Elvis Ekwukwo, the swift intervention by the state government in no small way restored peace and reduced the growing insecurity within Asaba and its environs.

He said " Over time, our people have been suffering from the overbearing impunity and untouchable posture of most members of this group, which only was a matter of time before it escalates and becomes a threat to both citizens and government alike, as was just witnessed.

" AYF-W acknowledges the Governor's proactive measures in quelling the rising chaos, and reaffirms its support for the administration's commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state.

" We particularly commend the government's efforts in dismantling criminal hideouts within the city, thereby enhancing both safety and the aesthetic appeal of Asaba, the state capital.

"We therefore, urge the state government to sustain its efforts in eliminating potential havens for criminal activities across Asaba in particular and all other parts of the state. Every location susceptible to fostering and breeding any form of criminal activities must be targeted in the ongoing initiatives aimed at purging the state of criminal elements.

In conclusion, the statement appreciated the security agencies for their swift availability to contain the protest.

Comrade Ekwukwo said " Furthermore, AYF-W expresses gratitude to the State Police Command and all security agencies for their swift response in containing the protests and restoring order. Their timely intervention prevented further escalation of the situation and safeguarded the interests of residents of the state capital and the neighbouring communities.

" Similarly, all those suspected to be culprits and harbingers of that unrest must be identified, arrested and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.

" As a responsible and responsive youth organization, AYF-W reaffirms its commitment to collaborating with relevant stakeholders, government agencies, and security forces to ensure the safety and security of all residents, irrespective of their origins, tribe or religion", the AYF-W National Publicity Secretary added.
