RESERVED SEAT FOR WOMEN BILL: APC NATIONAL WOMAN LEADER CALLS FOR MORE SENSITIZATION

The National woman leader of the All Progressives Congress Dr Mrs Mary Alile Idele has called for more sensitisation from the government and stakeholders as discussions centred on the Reserved Seats for Women in the National Assembly.

Dr Alile who was represented by Hon Isioma Ndah (LL.B, ACIMC, ASPSP, FCISM), South-South Coordinator of the project, made this call at a breakfast meeting with IPAC Executives, National Party Chairmen and National Women Leaders organised by the Federal Government of Nigeria, UN Women, and in partnership with the Canada, where she emphasised the need to take the advocacy to a new level, in view of the impact it holds for the future of women in the country and continent.

According to Hon Isioma Ndah, " I extend sincere appreciation to the National Woman Leader of the APC for this rare opportunity to represent her and the party at this strategic interaction towards a shift in our governance structure and practice.

In her commitment to the success of the bill and its assent by the President, Dr Alile has appointed Zonal Coordinators for the six geopolitical zones, to drive home this movement, amongst which I am the South-South Coordinator.

" This interaction allows us to share some truths about the participation of Women not just in politics, but in governance, with the underlying verdict being the need for special considerations for this category of the population.

The Office of the National Woman Leader also admonished Women to consider the project and advocacy as a lifeline to get their voices heard permanently.

Hon Isioma Ndah further stated " As women who are aware and conscious, we need to mobilise support for this advocacy. We must go beyond partisan and political lines, because the success of this advocacy is in its passage by the National Assembly, and assent by Mr Presedent. This advocacy is a win-win scenario for all women, irrespective of our political parties or partisan choices," she concluded.
