The Political Wind Is Blowing In Our Direction — Hon Aaron Ebenuwa; NDC Delta North Chairman

The Senatorial Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Delta North, Hon. Aaron Udoka Ebenuwa, has described the mass defection of APC members into the NDC in Agbor as a strong indication of the changing political landscape in Delta North ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ebenuwa, reacting to the development after the defection, said the movement of over 500 APC members into the NDC was not merely a numerical addition to the party but a reflection of growing confidence in the NDC and its political message across the senatorial district. The defectors, drawn from different parts of Delta North, were notably led by Chief Alex Ikpeazu and Mr. Stevenson Ikpade under the auspices APC Legacy Coalition Group.

The NDC Senatorial Chairman said the development further strengthens the party's growing political base and demonstrates that more stakeholders and grassroots supporters are beginning to identify with the NDC as a credible platform for political change in 2027. He described the defection as “a significant development” that should be viewed within the broader context of the increasing acceptance of the party across Delta North.

According to Ebenuwa, the latest influx of members would provide additional strength to the NDC's structures across the nine local government areas of Delta North, while also energising its grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 elections. He expressed confidence that the momentum would continue to build as the election approaches.

He particularly linked the development to the growing profile of the NDC's candidates in the district, including Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, Esq., FNSE, the party's Senatorial Candidate for Delta North, noting that the expanding support for the party would strengthen the collective prospects of its candidates contesting the Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly seats across the district.

Ebenuwa said the NDC was positioning itself not simply as a beneficiary of defections but as a broad political movement capable of bringing together different interests, political tendencies and grassroots structures under one platform. He urged the new members to integrate fully into the party and participate actively in the mobilisation process leading to 2027.

The Senatorial Chairman also commended the decision of the defectors, particularly the leadership provided by Chief Alex Ikpeazu and Mr. Stevenson Ikpade, describing their movement as an important political signal. He maintained that the development had added fresh impetus to the NDC's campaign and would encourage more stakeholders who were still considering their political direction ahead of the elections.

With the Agbor defection coming on the heels of other signs of growing political activity around the NDC in Delta North, Ebenuwa said the party was increasingly becoming a force to reckon with in the district. He declared that the objective going into 2027 was to convert the party's growing popularity and expanding membership into a well-organised grassroots structure capable of delivering decisive electoral victories for Victor Ochei and all other NDC candidates in Delta North.
