COMRADE ALABI KAYODE COMMISERATES WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF BENIN STUDENT COMMUNITY.
CONDEMNS VIOLENCE AND ADVOCATES FOR GREATER TOLERANCE AMONGST STUDENTS.
An aspirant to the office of the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students Comrade Alabi Kayode has expressed sincere commiserations with the students of the University of Benin over the death of a student to a recent spate of violence on campus.
In a statement signed by his campaign media and strategic communications directorate, the student leader said “the news of the death of Mr Moses Ogborinda Adeshina, a 200 level undergraduate student of the Faculty of Management Science University of Benin, resulting from a spate of violence on campus is a very sad development. From information available, the young Moses Adeshina was a prominent personality on campus, a student leader, as well as an upcoming figure in the Nigerian entertainment industry, and this makes his untimely demise a very painful loss to everyone. Therefore this act of violence is seriously condemned.
Whenever negative developments like this occur, it brings to mind the huge responsibility stakeholders in the student/comrade community as well as the general student population have towards each other especially as it relates to the safety of lives and an avoidance of a breakdown of law and order.”
The FUTA postgraduate student and former ANUNSA Chapter president and National PRO further called for greater tolerance and open-mindedness amongst students in their relationships with peers and other members of society. “One of the issues that complicates the advocacy for better welfare for students at every dialogue is the issue of restiveness and violent outbursts within the students community. This not only weakens the confidence of student leaders during the struggle for improved standards in our tertiary institutions, but also provides the leverage on which management authorities of these institutions belittle the capacity and contributions of students in the affairs of the institutions. Therefore the need for tolerance and a disposition to diplomacy in handling issues and affairs is strongly advocated.”
The statement was concluded with prayers for the repose of the soul of the deceased and condolence wishes to his family, friends, loved ones and the entire University of Benin student community.
“It is my prayer that the Almighty God grants eternal rest to our dear departed Moses Adeshina, even as I condole with his family and loved ones. The University of Benin community is also sympathized with."
