DELTA COUNCIL ELECTIONS: APC SCREENS ASPIRANTS, UPBEAT ABOUT ITS CHANCES.
We will match the PDP to produce Chairmen and Councillors At The Election – Adelabu Bodjor.

Aspirants to councillorship and chairmanship offices of local government areas on the platform of the APC from across Delta state were screened today by the Party at its secretariat along Anwai Road, Asaba. The process which began yesterday and is to last till Thursday 24th December, 2020, served to continue the party’s preparation for the March 2021 Council Elections holding across the state.
The process which involves cross-checking necessary documentations to ensure compliance with standards of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC), was already on when roundtownviews began interacting with individuals within the premises of the party secretariat.
Chairman of the Screening Committee, Chief Adelabu Bodjor Esq was seated with other members of the committee, as aspirants took turns in presenting themselves for validation of necessary credentials and proper documentation.
In a brief interview, Chief Bodjor expressed his satisfaction with the turn-up thus far and commended aspirants for their boldness. He also expressed his satisfaction at the peaceful compliance of the aspirants. “The process has been smooth and peaceful, with an impressive turn-up of individuals who are here to either pick-up or submit their party forms and documents. It began yesterday and will go on for another 2 days.
Ours (the committee) is to carry out a thorough job of ensuring that we give aspirants confidence as valid candidates before the eyes of the law. We give detailed orientation in order to help the aspirants and eventual candidates remain free from issues of filing and documentation, as well as assess their readiness for the contest.”
Bodjor, a legal practitioner and party chieftain from Delta Central Senatorial District also charged DSIEC to ensure that the elections reflect all the features of a democratic contest. “We are in a democracy and therefore have a right to expect that the electons are indeed democratic. Everybody should be allowed to choose their preferred candidate and majority decision should be allowed to stand at every point in time. It should be irrespective of the outcome and whether it favours our personal ends or not. In this I am very optimistic about the APC’s chances at this election and I know that we will match the PDP strength for strength in every area.”
Aspirants also commented on the party selection process thus far, commending the simplcity of the committee members.
A Chairmanship aspirant for Ughelli North Lga, Hon Frank Ossai expressed his satisfaction with the process thus far and assured of a positive outcome for the party. Ossai spoke after going through a process he termed as smooth and transparent.
Another Chairmanship aspirant, Comrade Ike God (Aniocha North) also okayed the process thus far, highlighting that “there has been no foul play”.
A female aspirant Comrade Oghenefejiro Laura Baker of Ward 1/14 Ughelli North, also spoke affirmatively of the process. The young lady said “the process has been smooth, fine and appropriate; all that is left is for the process to be free, fair and credible from the primaries to the main election”.
Ward 12, Ughelli North Aspirant Mr Owhe Godspower Oyibo commended the thorough job and maintained a very positive disposition to the elections, assuring of APC’s victory in his ward. He said “with the member of the HoA in my constituency Ughelli North coming from the APC, the HoR Member also an APC member and most inspiring, the Senator Representing Delta Central Sentorial District and Deputy President of the Senate Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege also of the APC, I dare say we would be victorious in many areas.”
Notable among the aspiants sighted at the party secretariat include, Hon Ekene Asiagwu Henry (the only APC councillor in the state), Comrade Emmanuel Chi Oweazim, Comrade Marcus Lodbroke, Comrade Hero I. Hero, etc.
Party Officials were also present. The composition of the screening committee is thus: Chief Adelabu Bodjor Esq (Chairman), Mr Godwin Okpor (Secretary), Mr Denbo Denbofa Oweikpodor, Barr Abel Idigu, Mr Henry Ophuori, Mr Eoor Mukoro, Mr Austin Oribioye, Hon Goddy Ewerode, Mr Bright Ogbeje, Hon Mike Nwaokolo, Mr Emeka Okafor and Barr Valentine Onujeghuo.
The committee is expected to submit its report to the Prophet Jones Erue caretaker leadership of the party in the state.
