Nigerian Youths Sympathize With Victims Of Agbor Fire Tragedy.

Wants NEMA drafted in quickly by the Federal Government.

As sympathies continue to pour in over the fatal fire incident in Agbor, Delta State, Nigerian Youths in the State have lent their voice of solidarity.

Members of Anioma Youth Forum - Worldwide (AYF-W) through the group's public relations department issued an inspiring statement to show their sympathy, support and progressive agitation for an avoidance of its future occurrence.
The group which is led by Comrade Nnamdi Okwufulueze Ofonye, also made calls for a more responsive emergency management system for the citizens by the Federal Government.

The statement in full:

AYF-W COMMISERATES WITH THE VICTIMS OF AGBOR GAS EXPLOSION, DEIN OF AGBOR AND NDI ANIOMA.

The Anioma Youth Forum Worldwide (AYF-W) commiserates with the victims and their families over the unfortunate gas explosion that happened in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area on Friday, 22nd January, 2021.

We also commiserate with the Dein of Agbor, HRM. Dr. Benjamin Ikenchuku Keagborekuzi 1 and the entire people of Anioma Nation over this tragic incidence.

The news of the gas explosion where many lives, properties, means of livelihood were lost and many others left with various degrees of injuries is one that has brought pain and grieve in this first month of 2021 and it is indeed saddening.

While we sympathize with the victims of this carnage, we equally want to use this opportunity to appeal to business owners especially those trading on volatile and highly inflammable commodities to adhere strictly to simple safety rules and measures in their business premises to avoid a repeat of this kind of unfortunate disaster.

We are therefore, calling on Delta State government to raise the standard of its enforcement of safety compliance measures across the State and create more awareness about the need to make Safety Protocols and compliance first in every organization.

In the same vein, we also want to seize this medium to ask the Federal and State government to through it's various agencies responsible for humanitarian activities especially the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA to be immediately drafted in to render all the necessary supports it can give and provide succour to the victims and the families of those who died from the disaster as we view the incident as a National disaster and tragedy.

Furthermore, the news on how many of the victims died after they were not attended to at the non equipped hospitals has once again brought to the fore the failure of our government in all sectors.

We hereby call on the state government to immediately commence the profiling and standardization of all hospitals in the state and anyone that falls below a minimum set level of standardization should be closed down.

Finally, Anioma Youth Forum Worldwide (AYF-W), offers its heartfelt condolences to families of those who have lost loved ones in the inferno and we pray that God grant the souls of the departed eternal rest and the loved ones left behind the fortitude to bear this colossal lose.

Signed:
Comr. Ekwukwo Elvis
National Publicity Secretary.
