NDDC COMMITTED TO NIGER-DELTA ROADMAP - HON EFFIONG AKWA
The management of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has restated its commitment to the people of Niger Delta on the vision to transform the fortunes of the region through a dedication to work assiduously in line with the Niger-Delta Roadmap.
This assurance stems from the disposition of the management to ensuring that the designs for the region by the present Buhari-Led FG, targeted at ensuring proper functioning, accountability and best practices for the commission.
Abinitio the management of the commission had embarked on an inspection of the NDDC warehouse located at Oroworukwo, where the NDDC Interim Sole Administrator Hon Effiong Akwa had ordered the immediate distribution waste disposal trucks to all states captured in the commission
Speaking to newsmen through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Olorogun Jaro Egbo, the NDDC Boss emphasized that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government's efforts towards repositioning the Niger-Delta region for accelerated development was on course and very much in line with the Next Level Agenda which was targeted at uplifting the Niger-Delta People.
Speaking further, Mr Jaro Egbo noted that notable developments have been recorded in the Niger Delta Region, such as the commencement of the Maritime University in Delta State, which is now in full capacity with over 1, 000 students spread across 13 undergraduate Courses in three Faculties.
Others include the development of Modular Refineries which are currently at varying stages of completion across the 6 Niger Delta states of Rivers, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River and Imo States.
He noted that the progress made in establishing modular refineries, including the Niger Delta Resources Refinery, NDPR has seen oil production move from 1,000 Bpd to 6,000 Bpd in a matter of weeks.
He further highlighted similar landmark projects in the Niger Delta which were in progress at the moment, including the Nigerian Maritime University in Okerenkoko, Delta State which commenced full academic activities last year; Federal Government’s Presidential Amnesty Programme which has continued to engage ex-militants and youths in the Niger Delta in formal education, vocational skills acquisition and empowerment schemes, while creating jobs for beneficiaries amongst others.
The completed Itakpe-Warri Rail line as well as the proposed development of Sea Ports in Warri and Akwa-Ibom, the establishment of Export Processing Zones to boost economic activities are also part of the goodies for the region.
He concluded by stressing the need to conrinually support the ongoing reorganisation and Audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), assuring that it was targeted at giving new fortunes to the Niger Delta people.
