Anti Corruption Crusade: AYF- W Calls On PACAC To Synergize With Relevant Agencies, Youth Organisations

As part of efforts to curb corruption and it's attendant negative consequences, the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), as part of it's mandate organized a PUBLIC EDUCATION/CITIZEN ENLIGHTENMENT PROGRAM
in collaboration with National Orientation Agency (NOA) with support from Centre for Democracy & Development (CDD)/MacArthur Foundation with the Theme:
VALUE RE-ORIENTATION AND THE FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION.
Anioma Youth Forum Worldwide (AYF-W), a Social-political Umbrella body of all Anioma Youths, whose core objective and priority is the development of Anioma people and Anioma land through accountable representation has charged the Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption PACAC to synergize properly with all relevant government agencies saddled with the responsibility of curbing corruption to ensure that all persons especially the Politically exposed ones fingered in one form of corruption or the other are made to face the full weight of the Law to serve as a deterrent to others.
The National President of the group, Comr. Nnamdi Ofonye who was represented by the National Publicity Secretary, Comr. Ekwukwo Elvis noted that corruption can only be reduced and curbed when those saddled with the task exhibits high level of political willpower to bring offenders to book irrespective of class or status.
He also emphasized on the need for such workshops and seminars to be organized and vigorously sustained for the youths so as to disabuse their minds from corruption and corrupt practices while also commending the National Orientation agency for waking up to its statutory responsibility.
Speaking at the program, Prof. Etannibi Alemika - Member of the Presidential advisory Advisory Committee Against Corruption, PACAC, called for the expansion of corruption discuss beyond economic crimes and bribery. He urged participants to look critically at the nepotism related corruption which has continued to lower the standards of various Institutions in both government and private sectors.
Also speaking at the event, Dr. Uju Agomoh, the Executive Director, PRAWA, emphasised the need for participants to take up the fight against corruption from within the various circles of influence, adding that people within our circles will easily do what they see us do instead of what we ask them to do.
Ken Hensaw, speaking on "The Role of Citizens in the Fight against Corruption" identified drivers of corruption to include; the existence of opportunity; improper investigation and prosecution; lack of commensurate punishment; the chances of retaining proceeds of corruption among other drivers.
All the Speakers harped on the need for value reorientation, noting that the rising cases of corruption from economic related crimes to violent crimes are amplified by lack of good morals and erosion of good value system in every strata of our Society.
The event which held on the 29th July, 2021 at Best Western Plus Hotel, Asaba, Delta State, drew participants from government functionaries, security agencies, civil society groups, social-Political organizations, organized labour unions and Youth groups among others.
