Delta 2023: Rufus Ebegba; APC's Credible Offensive To Liberate Delta State.
With the incumbent Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa completing the second of his comstitutionally opportuned 2 tenures as governorof Delta State, citizens, politicians, civil society groups, sociocultural organizations and the mass media, are permuting as to who takes over the mantle of governance.
Against the backdrop of the uninterrupted control and dominance of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) in the state for the larger part of 3 decades, it appears that the consciousness of deltans across the state is very much open to having an entirely new leadership and system in the state.
For Mr Pius Johnny, an indigene of Okwagbe in Ughelli South LGA, based in Asaba, he says "Delta 2023 is about having a leadership that is sincere about governance and administration, because deltans have not had the leadership they deserve. The 2023 Gubernatorial election is an opportunity to bring someone with vision, zeal and a good understanding of how to run the state. We must be prepared to look outward, if we must".
For Samson Omotosho, an Asaba based factory worker and footballer, " The state needs a governor that will really give it's all to sincerely encouraging talents and making opportunities available for them to thrive and be self sufficient. Although I'm not from Ogun State, however I've been in Delta State for more than 10years and I know that the state has a lot of talents, the issue has been the availability of opportunities to encourage them".
Being the main opposition in the state and possessing notable officials of the APC led Federal government, there is no doubt that the chances of the APC taking power in the state, rises on a daily basis.
Despite the PDP maintaining the state's incumbency advantage and APC's shaky standing, the recent and coming electoral reforms by the Muhammad Buhari Administration to ease up political participation, further emboldens the possibility of a takeover by the APC in the state.
Notable amongst the APC aspirants in the race is Dr Rufus Eseoghene Ebegba, a knight of the Catholic Church and Director General of the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA), FCT Abuja.
Since his rumored intention to contest the 2023 Gubernatorial election on the platform of the APC filtered into the state, a steadily increasing number of party faithfuls and the Delta population agree that the ideal candidate to face the PDP in the state, has obviously emerged.
Dr Rufus Ebegba is a native Evwreni Community in Ughelli North LGA and presently serves his second tenure as DG/CEO of the Agency. His entry into the race is a development that further enhances the chances of the APC, as he remains the only candidate that ideally encompasses and offers the new leadership that the state needs at this point in time.
With over 25 years experience in executive administration and public service, Dr Ebegba represents the much needed show of love, compassion, seriousness and expertise that APC needs to present to deltans at the 2023 guber polls.
Despite the array of nearly qualified aspirants as himself in the APC and beyond, Dr Ebegba stands a step ahead, as the clean and solid structure on which the much desired New Delta can be built.
Despite his intimate affinity to governance and administration at the Federal tier for about 3 decades, Dr Rufus Ebegba's dissociation and very loose relations with the running of government in the state over the years, indeed gifts the APC and deltans in general, with the bright chance of a candidate that offers true credibility to the masses.
Even as the 22year stronghold in the state has attempted to misconcieve the idea of politics, political participation and political competition through a premeditated selection arrangement, Dr Rufus Ebegba's candidacy offers a befitting competition in the face of a Delta Central Governor, as some quarters believe.
For true progressives who are in pursuit of a detribalised, open minded, controversy and corruption free Governor for Delta State come 2023, Dr Rufus Ebegba with his experience as Chief Executive of a National Agency stands tall and is best positioned to administer the resources and affairs of the state with the finesse of an impartial judge.
With accolades for good performance from eminent personalities including Senator Ike Ekweremadu; former Deputy President of the Senate and member of the Senate Committee on Environment, and the Honorable Minister of Environment Mohammad Mahmood Abubakar, there is no doubt that Deltans are closer to sincere leadership and progressive advancement with Dr Rufus Ebegba as Governor in 2023.
