FARMERS ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN POLITICIANS, DESERVE PRIORITY - NSAKA.
Ebenezer Chukwugozim Nsaka, Founder/Chairman NEC Foundation Nigeria.
Founder and Chairman of NEC Foundation Mr Ebenezer Chukwugozim Nsaka (Onyèchukwugozi), has emphasized the importance of farmers and the agricultural sector to the economy and well-being of the Nation, and the Local Government Council's onerous responsibility to galvanise and rally round farmers who are more concentrated at the grassroots.
Speaking to Roundtown Media, the Onicha-Olona indigene who aspires to Chair Aniocha North LGA under the platform of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP), asserted that the importance of farmers to the country assumes a new dimension due to rising food prices, and the local government administration had more to do with regards to agriculture and food security.
Mr Ebenezer Chukwugozim Nsaka said, " The present predicament of the nation shows that Farmers are of more importance to us in society, even more than we who are politicians.
" The economy is suffering serious consequences from numerous decisions that may not have been properly scrutinised, and together with the population explosion peculiar to our society, it is very clear that we may be heading to a period of foodshortage in the country.
" This development requires careful assessment for lasting solution, and one notable observation from assessment is the importance of Farmers to our society. The state government has recently approved
billions of Naira for som me agricultural programmes, and my administration will adopt similar measures to complement the effort of the state government.
Speaking further, Nsaka, a trained statistician, explained that Local Government Councils had major roles to play, insisting that its proximity to the people gives it practical problem-solving capacities.
He said, " The Local Government Council as the closest tier of government to the people, can go a long way to arrest and address this issue of food security.
" For instance, in my Manifesto titled MoreAction, I stated that through public private partnerships and a well structured security/intelligence unit, we can boost food production, acquire equipment, and offer good security for farmers and agricultural investors.
" This will ensure that Aniocha North becomes a source for steady food production and agricultural sustainability in the country," Ebenezer Nsaka added.
